Overland Park Master Bathroom Remodel: Shower Rebuild & Freestanding Tub

A Leaking Shower Prompted a Full Bathroom Remodel

Mr. and Mrs. R. contacted KC Handyman about a master bathroom remodel in Overland Park, Kansas, after experiencing a broken shower valve and minor wood rot. The original built-in shower bench had failed, allowing water behind the tile and creating mold.

What Demolition Revealed

Further demolition revealed aluminum drywall corner bead beneath the tile at the bench edges. With the leaking bench and concealed moisture damage exposed, KC Handyman recommended completely rebuilding the shower with proper waterproofing and eliminating the bench.

Shower Rebuild and Bathroom Updates

  • Completely rebuilt the shower with proper waterproofing and no bench.
  • Removed the old boxed-in soaker tub and installed a new freestanding tub.
  • Removed the old tile flooring and installed two different floor tiles: wood-look tile in the main bathroom and marble-look tile in the shower area.
  • Repainted the bathroom walls and existing vanities.

The Result

The renovation addressed the failed shower construction while updating the bathroom with a freestanding tub and refreshed painted finishes.
